What Is Poppy Playtime? The Horror Game Explained

Poppy Playtime is a first-person mascot-horror game series by Mob Entertainment, set in the abandoned Playtime Co. toy factory. Five chapters are out, with Chapter 5: Broken Things the latest.

Poppy Playtime is a first-person horror game series about an abandoned toy factory — and the toys that never left. You play a former employee of Playtime Co. who returns to the factory ten years after every worker vanished, following a mysterious VHS tape. What you find is worse than empty hallways: the company's mascot toys are alive, and they remember you.

Who made it

The series comes from Mob Entertainment, an indie studio founded in 2015 by brothers Zach and Seth Belanger. The first chapter launched in October 2021 and blew up almost overnight, thanks to streamers and the instantly iconic Huggy Wuggy.

What kind of game is it

It's "mascot horror" — cheerful children's characters turned genuinely frightening, a lane pioneered by Five Nights at Freddy's. But Poppy Playtime adds real gameplay: exploration, physics puzzles, and chase sequences, all built around your GrabPack — a backpack with two extendable hands you use to pull levers, swing across gaps, and conduct electricity. Our gameplay guide breaks down how it all works.

The story so far

Each chapter is an episode in one continuous mystery: what happened at Playtime Co., what the experiments were, and who the Prototype really is. Chapter 1 introduced the factory and Huggy Wuggy. Chapter 2 added Mommy Long Legs and the Game Station. Chapter 3 went underground into the Playcare orphanage with CatNap. Chapter 4 raised the stakes — and Chapter 5: Broken Things, released February 2026, finally confronts the puppet master behind it all.

Where to play

All five chapters are on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch versions following each release. Earlier chapters also have mobile ports. Each chapter is sold separately — see our pricing breakdown before you buy.
